She begins in the town of Alice Springs, where she is persuaded to take part in a dry boat race. She also heads back to the classroom at the world's largest school, meets a retired Aussie soap star at his desert home and takes a camel ride to the sacred site of Uluru, or Ayers Rock.

    Explorers Way

    Julia reaches South Australia as she continues her 12,000km journey across the continent. She drives along the Explorers Way, a route through the Outback mapped out by a pioneer in 1862, to the world's most isolated pub, where a small plane takes her on to the ancient landscape of the Painted Hills. In Adelaide, she climbs the roof of the Oval sports stadium and meets a women's cycling team, before ending her journey in wine country.
